Greg Robbins

Since 1998 I have been Islington’s Negotiating Secretary, the first fully privatised borough and negotiated on behalf of NASUWT, ensuring no member was disadvantaged by the transfer. Working closely with other unions I have ensured maximum impact with agreed positions wherever possible.

As local Secretary I have defended individual members’ interests on a variety of issues, including workplace bullying, redundancy, harassment, competency and induction issues.

I am Vice President of NASUWT Inner London Associations and from July will be President. I am committed to ensuring that all local associations in District 23 can work together to provide mutual support and speak with a common voice on issues which affect London teachers.

I am a regular speaker at conference. This year successfully I spoke on an amendment which greatly strengthened an Executive motion regarding Upper Pay Spine.

I fully support the NASUWT position on involving all members, regardless of sex, race or creed. It is impossible for us to move forward without fully utilising all the resources and expertise that are available to us.

I have worked constructively with the local authority to develop incentives for teachers to live and work in the borough - golden handshakes and housing initiatives and I look forward to seeing these initiatives spread further through liaison with the GLA. This is not to supplant the ongoing campaign for a realistic remuneration for London teachers in which I have been involved. Twice this year I have put the union’s position on national television.

Employment law is changing and it is possible to look forward to a time when all teachers have dignity and security at work, not just those on "permanent" contracts. I hope to bring that day closer.

Teachers should not be afraid when they go to work.
